PREMIERE:
03 OCT 2020
Richard Siegal reworks his successful production NEW OCEAN into a new form – one between dance installation and durational performance. Extended onto several hours, the choreography becomes a meditative experience for audience and dancers alike.
Last season, Richard Siegal / Ballet of Difference staged the piece NEW OCEAN, not only as his first full-length ballet, but also as an homage to the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham. Together with the lighting designer Matthias Singer, Richard Siegal developed an algorithm that determined the structure of the evening in relation to the melting ice of the polar seas - climate change translating into human movement. In response to current events, Richard Siegal is now rearranging the work as a performative installation: While the audience can enter and go, the dancers will perform their choreographed movements - always in dependence of the data of the polar ice.

The audience can choose an entry time throughout the performance and walk through the dance installation at Depot 1. A visit duration of about 45 minutes is recommended.
