For İrem Gökçen, theatre means courage and restlessness – it asks questions and remains in motion. Born in Istanbul, she studied acting at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. She gained her first stage experience in 2015|16 at the Istanbul City Theatre, followed by engagements at Schauspielhaus Graz, Theater Palais Graz, and the Volkstheater Vienna, among others. In 2022 she received the Advancement Award of the German-language Acting Student Competition, and in 2024 she was awarded the Nestroy Theatre Prize as “Best Young Talent – Acting” for her role as Clarice in “The Servant of Two Masters“. Why theatre? This question accompanies her again and again, and each time she discovers something new – perhaps that is precisely the reason.
