Laura N. Junghanns is an interdisciplinary artist working across directing, writing, and sound. Born in 1991 in the eastern part of Germany to an electrician father and a teacher mother, LNJ grew up in a small village between fields and post-industrial wastelands. At the age of twelve, she began working in order to afford a microphone and an electric guitar for antifascist self-defence. From that moment on, LNJ started composing songs, writing texts, and – rather absurdly – also writing plays, despite the nearest theatre being around 25 kilometres away.This absurdity eventually led her to leave home immediately after finishing school, first moving to Leipzig and, only a few months later, to Berlin – the place where she felt truly at home for the first time. After numerous side jobs, directing internships, and assistantships, she studied directing at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and Bochum from 2012 to 2016. She then joined Schauspiel Dortmund, where she found her first real theatre family, before continuing her journey into the wider world.
