Bassam Ghazi is a freelance director and city dramaturg. He moves between cultures and perspectives, trading in history and stories: biographical, post-migrant, diverse, inclusive, and disintegrated. From 2015 to 2021, he was the Artistic Director of the Import Export Kollektiv at Schauspiel Köln. Together with Birgit Lengers, he led the Stadt:Kollektiv – the participatory division of Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus – from 2021 to 2024. Previously, he worked with Grips Theater Berlin, Comedia Theater Köln, the Forum Civil Peace Service in Beirut, the Sommerblut Festival in Cologne, and Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre. As a director, he staged REAL FAKE, CONCORD FLORAL, SCHÖNE NEUE WELT, JUGEND OHNE GOTT and VATERMAL at Schauspiel Köln. In 2024, Bassam Ghazi was awarded the German Theatre Prize Der Faust in the “Genrespringer” category for his production of “Solingen 1993” at Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus.
