BRITNEY X
BRITNEY X comes back to Cologne — and returns to the city centre. In May 2027, between the statue of Sappho and the newly christened Dirk-Bach-Platz, the Schauspielhaus and all its stages will once again host the legendary and uncompromisingly queer feminist festival. BRITNEY X, a celebration of empowerment and diversity, glitz and struggle, chaos and care, consolation and pleasure. And not a second too late. Because the backlash is rolling through Europe: everywhere the real lives of queer and diverse identities are acutely threatened by the right. Everything that has been achieved in recent years suddenly seems fragile and endangered again. And within the queer and feminist scene there are also faultlines, areas of conflict and heated rivalries. Might it help to look at past queer campaigns for self-determination? To be able to understand our messy present full of TERFs and trad wives, the manosphere and Jens Spahn? What might a more beautiful future burning brightly for everyone look like? Let’s find out! In collaboration with actors and initiatives from Cologne, a packed programme awaits with theatre and performance, readings and discussions, parties and films, installations and workshops, raves and after hours. Lovers of the world unite: it’s BRITNEY X, bitch! Alternating every year since 2025 with the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus.
