Dat Wasser vun Kölle es jot

Debut
How clean is the Rhine? A gruesome discovery by the beautiful Rhine in Cologne presents a puzzle: the young activist Luise is washed ashore dead. Detective Clara and her colleague Hans launch a murder investigation. They find themselves probing deeper and deeper into a web of pollution, online threats and encrypted company data. They are fishing in murky waters until they eventually bring some sensational information to the surface involving a large local chemical company – and get closer and closer to the murderer. Water has an emotional effect. Especially for souls who live in Cologne, it is more than a biological necessity. Many myths lie dormant at the bottom of the Rhine, while we sit beside it and happily watch the ships go by or it makes us feel homesick when we travel far away. No other German waterway features in so many songs. Even the title of the play comes from a famous line in a song by Bläck Fööss. With DAT WASSER VUN KÖLLE ES JOT (“The Water in Cologne is Good”) Calle Fuhr introduces himself as Schauspiel Köln’s resident director and author. Laced with songs of the Rhine, it tells a Cologne detective story that reveals disquieting research results about the Rhine’s water quality: explosive facts from the investigative newsroom CORRECTIV are given a stage.
