#Motherfuckinghood

The Covid pandemic plunges ensemble member Claude De Demo into a crisis: she has no childcare, is scared and doesn’t have enough time. Suddenly she begins to have feelings that a mother – in the cliched version of the role – shouldn’t have. And she starts thinking: I’m not happy being a mother – even though I love my children. And this makes her have doubts: Am I not enough of a woman? Am I not enough of a human being?Overburdened, trapped and exhausted, she is filled with the need to present a more realistic image of motherhood, miles away from making jam and singing lullabies. In #MOTHERFUCKINGHOOD she teams up with director Jorinde Dröse to reveal on stage all the thoughts and all the wrongs that are so often kept secret and find no place in the image of the everpatient, eternally self-sacrificing mother. Based on intensive research, interviews with scientists and texts written by a range of women, they have created a collage about motherhood, care work and the persistent feeling of guilt and anger. It focusses on the reality between the gender pay gap, the mental burden, nursery places and “maternal instinct” and the question: If the truth about motherhood becomes obvious, how many women will still be willing to do it?
