Next Step: Die Autor*innen

Following the successful productions by NEXT GENERATION, Schauspiel Köln is now going one stage further: for NEXT STEP! DIE AUTOR*INNEN seven creatives with disabilities will join an inclusive writers’ room to co-author a play that is set around a kiosk in Veedel. There are stories about applying for jobs and experiencing discrimination but also about the normal craziness of living in a plural society. Based on their own biographical experiences, they write about their expertise with unchallenged perceptions and equality of opportunity that is realised and sometimes denied. Because it’s a good thing that there our country has rules for and values inclusion; but it doesn’t automatically mean that these have found their way into the practices of every business and organisation. Not to mention that what has been fought for might not last forever. Over the period of one year and in tandem with actors with and without disabilities the authors will try out their texts and scenes and develop them further. The script that comes out of this process will be given its world premiere in spring 2027 — mixed-abled and maxed for entertainment.
