Herbert Fritsch (born in 1951 in Augsburg) studied acting at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich. He went on to perform at various theaters across the German-speaking world. From 1993 to 2007, he was a member of the ensemble at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, working closely with Frank Castorf. Since 2007, Fritsch has worked as a freelance director and stage designer, creating productions for renowned drama and opera houses. As both director and stage designer, he has been regularly invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen. Since 1983, he has also directed films and, in 2000, founded the intermedial art project “hamlet_X”, of which he is the artistic driving force. Within this context, he works as a media artist, author, performer, photographer, and illustrator. He directed and acted in the feature film “11 Onkel”, produced within the framework of “hamlet_X.” The project is considered a pioneering work in the field of theater and digitality. Together with Sabrina Zwach, he published the artist book “hamlet_X – Interpolierte Fressen” with Theater der Zeit.
