Richard Lowdon


Richard Lowdon (born 1961) is a set designer, theatre maker, and performer. He co-founded the renowned Sheffield-based performance group Forced Entertainment after studying English and Drama at Exeter University. For over 40 years, the group has created collaborative works through improvisation, discussion, and writing for stage, galleries, and online. Lowdon has performed in over 40 projects and designed sets for all Forced Entertainment productions, including “Who can Sing a Song to Unfrighten Me” (1999) and “The Last Adventures” (2013). The company won the International Ibsen Award in 2016. Beyond this, Lowdon has designed for companies like Point Blank and Vincent Dance Theatre and worked on projects such as “In Pieces” (2009) and “Sideshow” (2017). He has taught widely across UK institutions and mentors artists. Based in Sheffield, he also makes furniture from recycled materials.
