Pia Maria Mackert has been working as a stage and costume designer in both drama and opera for over three decades. Her designs have been featured at numerous theaters in German-speaking countries and internationally. She has received multiple awards for her widely acclaimed work, including nominations for the Faust Award (2016) and the Nestroy Award (2021, 2024). She was awarded the latter for her stage design of “The Metamorphosis” at the Akademietheater Vienna. In 2016, she created the stage design for the inaugural Axel Springer Award ceremony for digital journalism, which honored Mark Zuckerberg. Her engagements have taken her to leading venues such as the Burgtheater Vienna, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Frankfurt Opera, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, Stuttgart State Theater, Hanover State Theater, Theater Dortmund, Karlsruhe State Theater, Theater Bonn, National Theater Mannheim, Nationaltheatret Oslo (Norway), and Theater Basel (Switzerland).
