Anna-Sophie Mahler studied directing at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin and has been working as a director for theatre and opera since 2004, including productions at Thalia Theater, Münchner Kammerspiele, Bayerische Staatsoper, and Schauspiel Stuttgart. Early in her career, she assisted directors such as Christoph Marthaler and Christoph Schlingensief. In 2006, she founded the independent group CapriConnection, with which she developed documentary-musical projects such as "Ars moriendi" (Impulse Festival 2011) and "Tristan oder Isolde" (Zürcher Festspiele 2013). In 2008, she collaborated with Carl Hegemann on Schlingensief’s production of "Die heilige Johanna" at Deutsche Oper Berlin. Her production of "Mittelreich" at Münchner Kammerspiele was invited to the Theatertreffen in 2016. In 2017, she was invited to the Biennale Teatro in Venice as an artist for her cross-disciplinary work, which includes collaborations with pop icon Peaches and the Stuttgart Ballet, Opera, and Schauspiel. From 2021 to 2024, she was resident director at Schauspiel Leipzig. Her most recent works include "Saint François d’Assise" (Staatsoper Stuttgart 2023), "Camino Real" (Volkstheater Wien), and "The Listeners" (Aalto-Theater Essen).
