Karneval des Scheiterns

How many defeats can one body take? How can we keep going when all seems lost? In failure people reveal themselves in their most vulnerable, wildest and most chaotic form. This performance celebrates what normally remains hidden: confusion, failure, pain and awkwardness that even turn into acts of resistance. Eight performers examine the liberating power of failure, creating a landscape of absurd confessions, dysfunctional dances and impossible actions. They celebrate imperfection and in the process come closer to trialling a new form of community. How can we relate to each other differently by acknowledging our vulnerability? For almost 20 years the writer and director Marco Layera (from Santiago de Chile) has toured the world with his company “La Re-sentida” (“The Resentful”). His productions have been presented at more than 100 theatres in 30 countries and have won numerous awards. Recently his play “Oasis de la impunidad” (“Oasis of Impunity”) was chosen by the New York Times as one of the most remarkable plays of 2022. Now, with the same cast, he is devising KARNEVAL DES SCHEITERNS (“Carnival of Failure”), with which he will present his work in Cologne for the first time.
