Originally created for the Netherlands Dans Theatre and later produced as a film by the BBC, Clowns now forms the first part of an exciting two-part dance evening. A macabre comedy about murder and desire, Clowns unleashes a whirlwind of choreographed anarchy, and tests how far we are willing to go in the name of entertainment. As a counterpart, the second part The Fix, brings a tender, fragile sensibility to the stage. Here, an atmosphere full of compassion and equilibrium emerges from the aggressive and violent forces that influence us every day. Violence, tenderness and hope are shown side by side in Shechter’s achingly beautiful cinematic production.
Hofesh Shechter is considered one of the most exciting choreographers of today; he creates atmospheric musical scores to elevate the unique physicality of his dance movement. He is the artistic director of the Hofesh Shechter Company, located at the Brighton Dome, and works as a choreographer for different theatre productions, such as London Royal Court Theatre, Metropolitan Opera New York and on Broadway, where he was nominated for a Tony Award for Fiddler on the Roof. He, and his company, have been regular guests in Cologne since 2009.
Danced by ten of his inimitable dancers and accompanied by an epic soundtrack composed specially by Shechter, Double Murder uncovers painful truths and digs into our deepest feelings.
