Tim Etchells (born 1962) is an artist and writer whose work moves between performance, visual art, and literature. He has frequently worked collaboratively, most notably as artistic director and writer for the world-renowned performance group Forced Entertainment, of which he has been a member since its founding in 1984. For his groundbreaking work with Forced Entertainment, Etchells was awarded the Spalding Gray Award and the International Ibsen Award in 2016. The production "Real Magic" was invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen in 2017. Etchells' original works have been commissioned by institutions including Ballett Basel, NTGent, Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, and the Festival d’Avignon. He has collaborated with numerous renowned performance artists, visual artists, and musicians. Based in both London and Sheffield, Etchells has created major artistic works for public spaces and has exhibited internationally in museums, galleries, biennials, and art fairs.
