In bester Lage
Back home at last in the ideal position. Schauspiel Köln returns to the Offenbachplatz! Perfectly themed for this long-awaited reopening, Artistic Director Kay Voges directs a comedy about a building complex that really packs a punch. One building, six apartments occupied by neighbours of convenience: small investors who will be paying off their mortgages until they retire live here side-by-side with debtfree rich kids with a habit of recharging their electric cars with communal electricity. Carefree singles are next door to families with a mountain of kids’ shoes piled up in the corridor. Permanent noise next to invisible souls whose only sign of life is their underwear in the contested laundry room. The roof leaks, but stubborn homeowners are preventing access to the attic. The staircase – with its constant smell of frying (thank you, first floor right) – has no disabled access and the recycling bins in the back yard are overflowing. To repair the frozen heating requires a unanimous decision. But how can everyone agree when some are being ruined by additional costs and others are measuring up their balconies for solar panels? This new comedy by Kristof Magnusson (“The Man Cave”) and Gunnar Klack reveals how the microcosm of a group of homeowners can reflect the global insanity of blocked investment, pluralism, parallel societies and ailing infrastructure.
