Leonhard Hugger grew up between Leipzig and Stuttgart. After graduating from High School and a brief period studying History he was drawn to become an actor at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. His first engagements came at the Akademietheater in Vienna and the Theater an der Ruhr, where he became a full-time ensemble member until 2023. For him, theatre is more than an art – it is storytelling, a home, a place where poetry remains alive. In 2024 Leonhard Hugger was nominated as Best Emerging Actor of the Year in the critics’ poll published by Theater heute magazine. At the Theater an der Ruhr he collaborated regularly with the director Philipp Preuss. His focus? Love, fragility, all the many facets of being human. And above all: listening to the forgotten voices of history. Originally, he wanted to be a rock musician. He is still on stage – only his instrument has changed.
