For Wiebke Rüter theatre is a place of dynamic communication and immediate encounters – with the unknown and with oneself, with beautiful and disturbing phenomena, with visions and fears, with the past, present and future. She studied Theatre Studies along with Communications and Media Studies at the University of Leipzig. While still a student, she assisted at Staatstheater Braunschweig and worked on independent productions with responsibility for text, dramaturgy and direction. After completing her Masters (with research focussing on theatrical anthropology) she was engaged full-time by Schauspiel Dortmund. Following this, she because Chief Dramaturg for theatre at Staatstheater Cottbus. She also premiered her own productions as a director at both Schauspiel Dortmund and Staatstheater Cottbus. In addition, she spent two years running Communications and Marketing for the Brandenburgische Kulturstiftung Cottbus-Frankfurt (Oder). Wiebke Rüter was nominated as “Cottbuser of the Year" for 2020. She has collaborated with Kay Voges, Claudia Bauer, Moritz Riesewieck, Jo Fabian, Zentrum für Politische Schönheit, Janis Knorr, Pia Richter, Philipp Rosendahl and Armin Petras, among others. She has now joined Schauspiel Köln as Dramaturg from the 25|26 season.
