Themed “After Nature – Imaginations of Nature Poetry” and organized by the University of Cologne in collaboration with the German Academy for Language and Literature, Poetica 9, the ninth festival for world literature will take place January 22 - 27, 2024. The final evening of Poetica brings all of the authors together; the voices of the nach der Natur choir will be heard, joined in a staging by Philipp Plessmann which lures nature into the heart of the theater. Between poems about the endangered island paradise of the Caribbean Sea, the threat of the Japanese nuclear industry, digging in the ground and crying about drought, is the attempt to find a language for one’s own relation to nature beyond everyday understanding. Featuring authors: Ali Abdollahi (Iran), Takako Arai (Japan), Camille T. Dungy (US), Kendel Hippolyte (St. Lucia), Esther Kinsky (Germany), Nikola Madžirov (North Macedonia), María Paz Guerrero (Colombia), Liana Sakelliou (Greece), Raphael Urweider (Switzerland); as well as curator Daniela Danz (Germany) and Yuri Englert, Yvon Jansen, Justus Maier, Philipp Plessmann, and more.
