A young actress leaves Istanbul during the 1970s military dictatorship. She goes to Berlin, meets the director Benno Besson at the Volksbühne and follows him to Paris where she works with him on his next production. The nameless protagonist keeps looking back to the past, talks about the population shift between Turkey and Greece after World War I, about deported Jews from Thessaloniki, and displaced and murdered people from Armenia. What the narrator has in common with people in exile is their boundless yearning. The theater and the people comfort her, give her creative energy, and become her new home.
In her long-awaited new novel, Georg Büchner Prize winner Emine Sevgi Özdamar sketches a lively, interwoven, and poetic panorama of the 21st century. The premiere of this artist-novel is directed by Nuran David Calis, who recently directed EXILE, MÖLLN 92/22, and THE GAP 2.0 at Schauspiel Köln.
