An aura of the ephemeral shimmers through the energetic, dense dance piece “Last Work” by choreography legend Ohad Naharin. A feeling of clarity and reflection, like being at the center of a hurricane. The dancers fill the space with the movement language that is so characteristic of the Batsheva Dance Company: expansive bodies, deep lunges or quotes from traditional Israeli dance formations such as the circular Hora. Despite all its dynamics, “Last Work” is defined by a subdued calm and meditative basic tension, which is carried by the electronic sounds of DJ Grischa Lichtenberger. After the acclaimed revival of “Sadeh 21”, Naharin returns with another task for the Hessian State Ballet.
