WERTHER.LIVE

THE SUFFERINGS OF YOUNG WERTHER, written in 1774 by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, serves as the template for this special live performance. The Punktlive theater collective has adapted the drama for the virtual present and allows it to merge with social media and film: eBay instead of a dance ball, Skype instead of a walk in the woods. Lotte and Werther fall in love with eBay classifieds, and although they have never met in person, it shakes Lotte's longstanding relationship and Werther's emotional world. How does Werther negotiate his suffering and his thoughts on suicide in the 21st century? And how do his friends deal with the fact that he slips away from them more and more?
WERTHER.LIVE was awarded the German Multimedia Prize 2020 and was selected among the 10 best plays of 2020 at the 2021 Nachtkritik-Theatertreffen. The production was nominated for the Theatertreffen of the Berliner Festspiele and is invited to the 38th Heidelberg Stückemarkt.
